Elsa Lays Her First Egg!

Mom’s little grey Silkie chicken named Elsa has laid her first egg. Mom is so proud! Little Elsa lays smaller than average eggs, due to her small size.

Silkies are named this because of their silky soft plumage. We think they originate from China, around 206BC, so they’re a really old breed.

Silkies are also very friendly and docile, and frequently bond with their owner. They are cuddly and don’t mind being petted and handled. Because of temperament and size, they frequently get picked on by other breeds and have to be kept separated from the herd.

Mom has her Silkies separated from the other chickens, which apparently they don’t like being separated! See the other chickens all bunched up here:

Here is Elsa’s protector, Chewy (short for Chewbacca). Even the males are very docile towards humans.

We think Chewy & Elsa are very happy at Mom’s, and Mom is just over the moon about her new Silkies! Stay tuned for more updates about Mom’s.
